Janet Hecken, our "My Brother Vinny Bin Lady," has dedicated so much of her time to tirelessly create our MBV Veteran Starter Kits filled with housewares and homegoods. She has literally made her home into a Veteran bin prepping center to ensure our Veterans have the essentials. These "starter kits" are prepared with so much love in various color palette choices to provide our Veterans with an extra special personal touch.
Through Janet's amazing generosity which began in 2015, along with our Donor Angels helping to supply support in purchasing of items for the bins throughout the year. She has lovingly created 1340 bins as of November 1, 2019.
Over 1500 U.S. Veterans supported!
All of the U.S. Veterans that we assist come from many different branches of military service and with varied degrees of disabilities and hardships.
Through community support we collect and provide furniture (beds, dressers, kitchen tables, chairs, sofa) household items, kitchen utensils, linens, dish sets, toiletries, etc.
Although homeless, they are left with a deep sense of pride and welcome our support and services because we do not offer a handout, we offer our hand in friendship and support. We provide the items needed to start over.
We try to accommodate the best we can as a 100% volunteer organization.Click Here
2018 was a great year for MBV! Read all about it in the 2018 Veteran Log.
In 2019, MBV reached out as far as Rhode Island and Delaware to serve our Veterans.

I'm truly so proud that I was openly able to share my story. The beauty of MBV formed through 2 painful losses, my accident and tons of love. It choked me up hearing the playback. I believe my Angels in Heaven Julian and Vinny are smiling! Extra beautiful this aired on Vinny's 20th Anniversary in Heaven.

#WalkforMBV Best Day Ever
It's been an amazing year for us. We hit our goal closing over $50,000. I feel blessed. It's not just because of monetary support. (Believe me we survived since Jan on these funds). It's the beautiful sense of community I feel when surrounded by our MBV Family serving and celebrating like today. I feel peaceful Joy!
I'm winding down after an absolutely amazing "My Brother Vinny Walk 2021". I have so many thoughts swirling through my head. I spent the last few hours looking at photos coming in, walked a few hours myself, and reflected on the past year. The loss of our MBV Family Member Rob Burkard last March, the beauty we create every year as I honor my brother Vincent , and our absolutely beautiful "My Brother Vinny " Family! God I feel so truly blessed to love service. Even when it looks like I'm climbing a mountain joy lights the way.
The pandemic caused many organizations to pivot from the normal model of fundraising. This walk is our largest fundraiser, for an organization with no actual guaranteed budget. I knew that if we did not have an successful event, I would be backed into a corner of another 401k or pension loan. You see, there was no blueprint for our work. I had a go all in approach that was powered by faith, and an amazing volunteer family that gets us through.
When life gets hard I have learned it's best to hold my head high, trust my gut and instinct. Last year, when I changed our walk model prior to the shutdown it was risky, but we had so much reward. We raised over $ 50,000 with way less expenses. This year, we kept the same model of our #WalkforMBV Anywhere USA, with an opportunity of having larger groups waking together.
Next year we'll continue our new way of the #WalkforMBV #AnywhereUsa Sunday June 12, 2022. Special Location - Yorktown Heights, Jack DeVito Veterans Memorial Track and Field, with hopes to continue to use the beautiful American Legion Post #1009. Thank you my dear friend Yorktown Council Member Ed Lachterman and Patrick McDonough for the Legion.
Love you all!! I felt the collective beauty from everyone!
Our 2021 Virtual/Hybrid Walk was June 13, it was a huge success.
